United States v. Patricia Polk

United States District Court, Northern District of Ohio

Mr. Gibbons was appointed by Judge Patricia A. Gaughan of the United States District Court to represent Patricia A. Polk who was a resident of the State of Florida.  Ms. Polk became involved in a scheme to defraud the Internal Revenue Service by filing false tax returns.  She had become involved in the scheme with a notorious fringe group of individuals known as “Freemen” or members of“The Sovereign Nation”.  Mr.Gibbons met with Ms. Polk and quickly determined that several persons, who were far more culpable, had taken advantage of Ms. Polk and induced her to participate in their wild scheme.  Attorney Gibbons was able to negotiate a favorable plea agreement, whereby, she agreed to testify against the more culpable Defendants. She was sentenced to serve 10months in prison and receive mental health counseling and treatment.  She ultimately served her time at a Federal prison camp in Florida.
